Sustainable development

As a major player in economic development and tourism, Ajaccio Airport is committed to a responsible and voluntary approach to sustainable development.

Our Quality Safety Environment department designs, coordinates and directs the implementation of the management system in these three areas.

  • Our missions SECURITY are to keep abreast of changes in regulations, to ensure that the departments concerned are aware of and apply them, and to train our various staff in this area.
  • The missions QUALITY We work on a wide range of issues, from document audits to customer satisfaction.
  • Finally in ENVIRONMENT, Our ambition is to make our site more environmentally friendly by reducing our carbon footprint, to raise awareness among people working at the airport of the «green gestures» to adopt, and to preserve as much of the natural environment around us as possible.

Le Quality Safety Environment department is committed to actions in favour of the environment and sustainable development.

As part of our Airport Carbon Accreditation level 2 certification, we are working to reduce - or at least maintain - our carbon emissions each year, with actions such as switching to LED lighting and stricter management of heating and air conditioning.

Our approach does not stop there, and we are working daily on ecological projects, such as the installation of photovoltaic panels on our car parks, the renewal of our Aéro Biodiversité label, and the creation of an in-house recycling centre for all those involved in the airport site.

Aerobiodiversity

With a large meadow conducive to biodiversity, our structure is committed to protecting flora and fauna while complying with aeronautical and regulatory constraints.

With this in mind, our Ajaccio Napoléon Bonaparte airport has obtained the Aérobio label - Level 1.

This label demonstrates the investment and commitment of the Corsican Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the airport teams to sustainable development and environmental protection.

Our platform is a partner in this initiative. The participatory science protocols have been regularly monitored since we joined.

This label is awarded by the AéroBiodiversité Association, which covers four biodiversity issues: biodiversity, staff investment, communication and territorial anchoring.

Over the past year (2023), the AéroBiodiversité Association has carried out 3 protocol visits.

Airport Carbon Accreditation

Aero Bio diploma awarded

The airport has taken steps to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by joining the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme.

The Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) programme run by ACI (Airport Council International) independently assesses and recognises the efforts made by airports to manage and reduce carbon emissions through 7 levels of certification.

Our airport has been awarded Level 2 «Reduction» accreditation,

This Level 2 certification distinguishes airports committed to a voluntary approach to reducing their CO2 emissions through four levels of accreditation: mapping, reduction, optimisation and neutrality.

To achieve level 2, it was necessary to demonstrate that total emissions for the most recent year (i.e. 2022) were lower than the average for the last three years, which involved implementing measures to reduce electricity consumption.

What is the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme?

  • Institutionally recognised global certification programme for airport carbon management
  • Independently assesses and recognises the efforts made by airports to manage and reduce their carbon emissions through 4 levels of certification: Mapping, Reduction, Optimisation and Neutrality.
  • Enables airports to access different levels of carbon management and carbon neutrality for airports of all sizes

Why get involved?

The island airports managed by the CCI are committed to sustainable development and ecological transition in order to preserve the region's environmental heritage. It is therefore important to adopt a long-term approach with objectives focused primarily on assessing and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
